The Telecommunication Authority, which was established by the Law No. 4502 on January 27, 2000 in order to carry out the regulatory and supervisory duties in the electronic communication sector, was restructured with the Electronic Communications Law No. 5809 on November 10, 2008 and its name was changed to the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK).
In addition to its duties in the electronic communication sector, Information and Communication Technologies Authority mainly fulfills the duties assigned by the Electronic Signature Law enacted on January 15, 2004, the duties related to the Registered Electronic Mail Services within the framework of the amendments made in the Turkish Commercial Code No. 6102 on January 13, 2011, and the duties entrusted to the institution by the Postal Services Law enacted on May 23, 2013.
On the other hand, with the decree no. 671 published in the Official Gazette dated August 17, 2016, BTK has been given critical tasks in ensuring cyber security and increasing cyber security capacity. BTK has important tasks in the cyber field from making intelligent transportation systems more secure against cyber threats to taking the necessary measures against cyber-attacks that threaten national security.
Although many regulations needed in the field of electronic communication within the scope of the activities carried out for the development and dissemination of intelligent transportation systems in our country have already been made by Information and Communication Technologies Authority, it will provide the necessary support within the framework of its legal duties in the new regulations that will be needed for this purpose.
