The two ministries, which came from the Ministry of Economy in 1939 and merged in 1949 and separated again in 1957, experienced a new merger attempt in 1971. This merger was realized with the approval of the Presidency (26.3.1971/4-286) and for the first time under the name of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (Official Gazette: 27.3.1971, issue 13791). However, there was a shrinkage during this merger; The Organization of the Foreign Trade Department was separated from the Ministry for the first time and the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations was established. The duties of the Ministry of Industry and Trade are limited to the fields of industry and domestic trade.  The Ministry of Industry and Trade was re-established with the "Decree Law on the Principles of the Establishment and Duties of Ministries" (13.12.1983/KHK 174) published in the Official Gazette dated 14.12.1983 and numbered 18251. It was also organized by the "Decree Law on the Organization and Duties of the Ministry of Industry and Trade" (13.12.1983/KHK-185) published in the Official Gazette of the same date, and then some amendments (8.6.1984/KHK-214) were made.

With the Law published in the Official Gazette dated January 18, 1985 and numbered 18639 (8.1.1985/3143), the decrees referred to were abolished and the Law on the Organization and Duties of today's Ministry came into force. The decrees referred to by the Law published in the Official Gazette dated January 18, 1985 and numbered 18639 (8.1.1985/3143) were abolished and the Law on the Organization and Duties of the Ministry entered into force.

According to the Decree Law No. 635 dated 03.06.2011, the name of the Ministry of Industry and Trade changed and became the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. According to the Decree Law No. 635 dated 03.06.2011, the name of the Ministry of Industry and Trade was changed to the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology.

According to the Decree Law No. 703 dated 09.07.2018, the name of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology has changed and become the Ministry of Industry and Technology.
