Connected Vehicles to Autonomous Vehicles: Intelligent Transportation Systems Workshop Held

The "Connected Vehicles to Autonomous Vehicles: Smart Transportation Systems Workshop" organized by Marmara University VeNIT Lab for the second time was held on December 6, 2022, at the Marmara University Mehmet Genç Campus.

The event, which was also supported by ITS Türkiye, attracted 145 participants from 75 different organizations across 22 cities. The workshop brought together stakeholders and representatives from various sectors such as Smart Transportation Systems, automotive, and telecommunications. It addressed the impact of connected and autonomous vehicles on the present and future, as well as the technological, legal, and sociological aspects of these developments.

Marmara University VeNIT Lab Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Müjdat Soytürk, delivered a speech on "From Connected Vehicles to Autonomous Vehicles: V2X Communication and Services," sharing insights into current and future ITS applications. He discussed the benefits of connected vehicles and their impact on the widespread adoption of autonomous vehicles. He also shared the work conducted by VeNIT Lab in the areas of V2X communication, connected vehicles, and smart services.

Representatives from AVL Turkey, Intetra, Türk Telekom, TOFAŞ, NXP Netherlands, AVL Austria, BigTRI, and Ahi Law Firm, as well as Istanbul Bilgi University, participated in the workshop and shared their activities, projects, and insights on connected, cooperative, and autonomous mobility.

The event also saw the participation of employees from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's Communication General Directorate and the Smart Transportation Systems Department. It was a productive event with contributions from municipalities, universities, automotive organizations, cellular network operators, legal entities, testing and inspection organizations, and various small, medium, and large-scale enterprises operating in the field of ITS.
