We Are Choosing the Most Environmentally Friendly Mediterranean City

The deadline for applications for the "Most Environmentally Friendly Mediterranean City" award, organized by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, and the Istanbul Environmentally Friendly Cities Award, to which municipalities from cities, districts, provinces, and metropolitan municipalities with a coastline on the Mediterranean can apply, has been set as April 30, 2023.

In this context, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change continues its efforts to prevent pollution in the Mediterranean, protect marine life, and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The "Istanbul Environmentally Friendly Cities Award" ceremony, in which all countries bordering the Mediterranean and signatory to the Barcelona Convention will participate, will be held in December 2023. All municipalities, including cities, districts, provinces, and metropolitan municipalities with a coastline on the Mediterranean, are eligible to apply for the "Istanbul Environmentally Friendly Cities Award," which is financed by the Republic of Türkiye.

The objectives of this award include encouraging local authorities to move towards a more environmentally friendly future, inspiring local governments to act as role models for other cities, and raising awareness about the quality of the environment in their cities.
