The International Road Federation (IRF) has selected the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge and Highway Project as the Project of the Year in the field of construction methodology due to the innovative methods and engineering solutions applied in its record completion time of four years.
The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge received the first-place award in the Construction Methodology category at the award ceremony held on November 2, 2022, in Washington, D.C., United States, as part of the 'Roads to Tomorrow Conference' organized by the International Road Federation.
The award for the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge was received jointly by Fethi Turgut, Advisor to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye, Ahmet Sağlam, Deputy General Director of Highways, Sezgin Küçükbekir, Regional Director of the General Directorate of Highways (GDH) for Public-Private Partnership, and Reşit Yıldız, Executive Board Member of the contractor joint venture, ÇOK A.Ş.
The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, which was tendered by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure General Directorate of Highways (GDH) under a build-operate-transfer model and constructed by a joint venture consisting of Turkish companies Limak and Yapı Merkezi and South Korean companies DL E&C and SK ecoplant, holds the titles of 'the world's longest central span suspension bridge with a span of 2,023 meters' and 'the world's tallest towered suspension bridge with a height of 334 meters.'
In 2021, the International Road Federation (IRF) named the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge and Highway Project as the 'Project of the Year in the Field of Finance' due to its diverse financing structure. To date, the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge has won a total of 20 awards, including 12 finance awards, 1 environmental award, 4 employment awards, and 3 engineering awards.
