All Stakeholders Meet for 6G
The third '6G Workshop' was organized by Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, Vice President of Defense Industries Dr. Celal Sami Tüfekçi, Head of the Presidential Digital Transformation Office Dr. Ali Taha Koç, senior executives from the sector and many academicians attended the opening of the workshop held at Kavacık South Campus Conference Hall. The workshop included five panels titled 'Türkiye's Transition to 5G', 'Domestic Ecosystem in 5G and Beyond', 'IoT Impacts in Vertical Sectors', 'Preparation for 6G Domestic Ecosystem' and 'Academic Overview for 6G Vision'.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan said, "Communication, which is a field that will change the course of the world. It affects all elements, especially in the fields of education, health and tourism. We've had big improvements in the last 10 years. Technological competence is an indicator of development for countries. Our goal is to use 5G in 2023 with the highest locality rate."
Esma Dilek, Deputy General Manager of Communications of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and President of ITS Türkiye Association, who participated in the panel on 'IoT Effects in Vertical Sectors' in the workshop, touched on issues related to 6G journey, 6G IoT applications, the effects of 6G on transportation and communication and the future plans of our ministry in her speech.
Referring to the change journey of mobile communication technologies from 0G to 6G, which directly contributes to technological developments in all sectors, Dilek said, "Today, the technological opportunities offered by 4G and 5G will be carried to much more advanced levels with 6G and will evolve towards a fully digital and connected world. With the development and realization of 6G, it will be possible for many applications that we currently consider utopian to become part of our daily lives in the 2030s."
"6G will be a solution that everyone is looking forward to" Dilek mentioned that with the rapid spread of 5G worldwide, 6G is expected to respond to the needs of society and business in 2030 and beyond. Stating that the Internet of Things (IoT), which is the technology that connects all computing devices, machines, objects, animals and even people that can produce information and share it over the internet, can provide a large number of interconnected devices and large-scale machine communication through 6G without the need for human intervention, Dilek said, "By providing the connection between people, devices, sensors and all similar tools, the 'Internet of Everything' ( 6G will be a solution that everyone is looking forward to implement IoE and meet the demands of the smart digital world."
Continuing her speech as 6G is foreseen to be the sixth sense communication from today, Esma Dilek underlined that 6G will have great effects in the field of transportation. "6G also plays an ambitious role in issues that include reducing its footprint on energy, resources and emissions, and improving sustainability in other areas of society and industry," Dilek said. With 6G, vehicles equipped with sensors, in-vehicle information and communication systems will be able to be monitored and managed remotely and informed about many issues and directed instantly. Considering that the sine qua non of intelligent transportation systems will be real-time data and the transmission speed of data, the main role player here will be 6G. BecITSe it is not possible to talk about an ITS without communication technologies."
Pointing out that 6G technology will also be used in urban and intercity transportation, international transportation, intelligent traffic management, semi-autonomous vehicles, high-speed mobility, smart / autonomous logistics, UAVs and satellite communication in maritime autonomous ships and ports in transportation and communication, Esma Dilek said, "In the future, 6G wireless new generation information and communication systems, from the Internet of Things, to the ability to represent information, process data and make decisions. It will provide the transition to the Internet of Intelligence, which is defined as functions with has. 6G will be the nervous system of the wireless world."
