The Third of the Electric Vehicles and Smart Cities Workshop Series Was Held

The third of the "Electric Vehicles and Smart Cities Workshop Series" was organized by the Ankara Branch of the Chamber of Electrical Engineers on Wednesday, June 21, 2023under the titles of "Electric Vehicles Charging Stations and Smart Cities: Standards, Incentives, Charging Units, Installation, Operation, Certification" hosted by Ankara OSTIM OSB.

The problems that may be encountered with the arrangements made on issues such as the installation, operation, supervision and certification of electric vehicle and charging technologies and electric charging stations and their solutions and the future electric vehicles and smart cities were discussed comprehensively in the event organized jointly with OSTIM Technical University.

In the first session of the workshop, where the opening speeches were made by OSTİM Technical University President Prof. Dr. Murat YÜLEK, EMO Ankara Branch Chairman Prof. Dr. Şeref SAĞIROĞLU and OSTİM OIZ Chairman Orhan AYDIN, John Paul P. Caña from Gintuga Technologies, LCC Texas USA, participated in the session online with his presentation on "Wireless Charging Technologies", while  the Deputy General Manager of General Directorate of  Communications of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and Esma  DİLEK, President  of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Association of Turkey (AUS Turkey),made a presentation on  "Computer Vision Applications in Intelligent Transportation" in the first session titled "Smart Cities and Mobility".

DİLEK, who started his speech by defining Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), touched upon Computer Vision, which is the development of artificial intelligence and one of the research areas of artificial intelligence, the areas of use in the field of ITS, the applicability of Computer Vision applications, the advantages it offers, the difficulties encountered in applications, future research areas and new trends in this field. DİLEK said, "Computer vision applications are based on the making of objects in pictures and videos using information technologies and are used in many areas, including transportation systems. Thanks to the analysis of traffic observation video images with computer-aided intelligent systems using Computer Vision techniques, computer control and accuracy of the data can be increased in the evaluations on the images, human-induced error margins can be reduced, effective and efficient transportation management is provided and the country's economy is contributed." Emphasizing that computer vision applications are used to improve the intelligence level of transportation systems, improve their efficiency and increase traffic safety in their presentation, DİLEK informed the workshop participants about computer vision applications in the field of ITS and machine learning and deep learning methods used in current literature studies.

Mehmet Yazıcı, the last speaker in the first session  and the Mobility Management Unit Officer of the Mobility Management and Accessible Transportation Department of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, presented the project named "Planning of Electric Vehicle Charging Station Locations in the Road Network" carried out by the Strategy Development Directorate to the participants.

At the end of the workshop, which attracted the attention of public and private sector company representatives, certificates of appreciation, sapling planting certificates and plaques were presented to the speakers in memory of the event.
