BAUSMER 3rd International Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference Successfully Organized

The 3rd International Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference, hosted by Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University, a member of ITS Türkiye, was held online from November 15 to 17.

The conference aimed to contribute to the work and research of academics working in various disciplines in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). It concluded with active participation from representatives of the public and private sectors, as well as academics from national and international universities.

During the conference sessions, discussions covered global ITS services, current applications, as well as studies and planned projects in Türkiye in this field. The event featured academic studies and paper presentations.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet TEKTAŞ, the Head of the Department of Intelligent Transportation Systems and Technologies at Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University and the Director of BAUSMER, made an opening speech during the opening session of the conference. In his speech, TEKTAŞ highlighted the activities of BAUSMER and emphasized the collaborative efforts of the university in alignment with the "National Intelligent Transportation Systems Strategy and Action Plan for 2023 Goals" announced by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure

Esma DİLEK, Deputy Director General of Communication and President of the ITS Türkiye Board, delivered a presentation during the opening session. She discussed the development, transformation, and current state of intelligent transportation systems in Türkiye. DİLEK emphasized that the responsibility for determining national strategies and policies related to intelligent transportation systems, as well as conducting relevant legislation studies, was assigned to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure by Presidential Decree. She also highlighted the coordination of activities carried out by the General Directorate of Communication and other relevant units of the Ministry in the field of ITS.

DİLEK provided insights into ongoing projects and future plans, including the draft goals set for the 2024-2030 period. She mentioned the completion of the National ITS Architecture Development Project and the upcoming launch of the National ITS Platform, aiming to provide a reference framework for the harmonization of ITS components. DİLEK stressed the importance of collaboration between the public sector, private sector, academia, and NGOs in all activities carried out within the framework of the action plan.

The conference included sessions on academic studies in the field of ITS over the second and third days. Topics covered in these sessions included "Cybersecurity in Intelligent Transportation Systems: Current Situation and Recommendations in Türkiye" and "Urban Clean Air Areas: Low Emission Zones," among others.

The conference, organized by BAUSMER, contributes to the goals outlined in the "4.1. Establishment of ITS Awareness and Consciousness" action of the National Intelligent Transportation Systems Strategy Document by raising awareness and understanding of ITS and its applications in Türkiye.
